More flooding to come with expected rain

Northern Missouri saw heavy rainfall over this weekend, resulting in minor flash floods across the area.

Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Spencer Mell, says some areas of northern Missouri saw upwards of 6 inches of rainfall this past weekend.

"Beginning Friday night and through the weekend, we had several rounds of heavy rain move through the area.  We that, we saw widespread 3-5 inches across northern Missouri with a few pockets of evern 6-8 inches of rain."

With the large amounts of rain, Mell says the region could see major flooding.

"Currently we do have a lot of the local rivers in minor to moderate flood with even one river at one point on the Grand River at Pattonsburg in major flood.  So obviously the rivers are running very high right now and we do have more rain coming on the way."

More rain is expected this Tuesday evening. Mell says to be careful if you are driving near flooded areas and to heed any warning signs.

"Just make sure that you're not driving around any barricades that might be out there blocking off some roadways.  That's one of our main killers around this area is flooding, so make sure that you heed those barricades and don't drive into any standing water."
